The urge to create art and the need to preserve it stem from our inability to control time. As it is certain that nothing lasts forever, Humans seek ways to prolong the existence of things. Like, we preserve impermanent aspects of art: moments, styles, perspectives, and techniques even. In fact human try to preserve everything, even their lives and lifestyles. But amidst striving and preservation I find “the present moment” very intriguing. I’m intrigued by how our brief existence leaves temporary voids, which vanish the moment we’re absent in a space. These voids are like placeholders, awaiting others to occupy them. These momentary voids are very interesting to study. When someone or something occupies a particular space at a specific moment, it creates a mental impression of that space. The absence of that object or person in the next moment leaves a sense of hollowness in our minds, as we recall their prior presence. We can’t perceive these negative hollow spaces visually or auditorily; rather, our brains rely on certain memories to evoke a sense of hollowness. I’ve personally encountered these fleeting voids between people, often triggered by the loss of friends and family. The concept wasn’t strong enough until I completed a co-related project, “Existence of Identity”. I’m fascinated by humanity’s lack of control over time. Given the focus on time, the present, and existence in my project, I sought a representation that could only be experienced in the present moment. To achieve this, I’m using devices designed to function momentarily. Wood works, LED lights, Arduino and ESP based modules are the fundamental components and structure of this project. This is an ongoing project.
